Julia joined the IGNITE team during its 2011 launch in Durham, NC. Her involvement with IGNITE and commitment to its students was the starting point on her path into the education world. Julia graduated from Duke with a BA in Political Science and French. In addition to working with students during the Durham, NC launch of IGNITE, Julia has researched the barriers to higher education for low-income youth, tutored elementary students in the Durham Public Schools, worked locally teaching english to refugees, and worked abroad for an Egyptian NGO supporting street children. Julia has further confirmed her commitment to educational equity in Seattle, WA, where she works with students and families as a Site and Program Coordinator for a national dropout prevention non-profit, Communities in Schools.
